Petri Koistinen is currently a policy coordinator at the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban policy (DG REGIO) of the European Commission. His main responsibilities are to manage the Northern Periphery and Arctic Interreg programme and to oversee the implementation of the EU Macro-regional Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR). He has previously worked with the digital policy and regulatory issues, the EU accession negotiations and EU-Asia relations in the area of digital economy. Prior joining the Commission and DG REGIO in 1999, he worked for the Finnish Innovation Fund (Sitra) and for an international IT company. He has also worked as a university researcher and as a civil servant. He holds a Master of Laws degree from the University of Lapland (with court training), having furthermore studied international and EU law and politics at the University of Stockholm (Sweden) and the Royal University of Leiden (the Netherlands).
