Vivian Motzfeldt, comes from a sheep farming family in the South of Greenland. She is married with four children. She graduated as a school teacher from Ilinniarfissuaq in 1997; and worked as such from 1997 to 2014, alternating with studies at Ilisimatusarfik – the University of Greenland. Here she earned her BA in Culture and Social History in 2001 and in the years 2011-2014 she continued her studies in Language, Literature and Media also at Ilisimatusarfik
Since 2014, as a member of Inatsisartut – the Parliament of Greenland she has served in several parliamentary committees such as for Culture, Education and Church, for Foreign and Security Policy and for Finance and Tax. She has also served as the chairperson for the Constitutional Committee. Most notably she served as the Speaker/ Chair of Inatsisartut from 2018-2021. Ms Motzfeldt also held the position of Minister for Education, Culture and Church as well as Foreign Affairs in 2018.
